Every great cup of coffee has a story—ours begins in El Murciélago, better known as Tibás, in San José, Costa Rica. What started as a simple idea to better appreciate coffee became a movement dedicated to quality, sustainability, and community impact. This is the story of Dukúr Coffee.

From Curiosity to Craft: How Dukúr Coffee Began

In 2016, driven by a growing interest in Costa Rican coffee, we enrolled in a barista course to learn the true art behind every cup. That experience changed everything. It opened our minds to the complexity of this amazing fruit, from coffee varieties and processing methods to the intricate world of aromas, flavors, and cultural traditions.

Inspired and determined, we took a bold step: We purchased our first quintal of green coffee beans, roasted them ourselves, and began sharing our passion with others. We knew we were stepping into a market dominated by big brands, but what we had was heart, authenticity, and a vision for something more.

A Name with Purpose: The Meaning of Dukúr

We’ve always felt a deep connection to nature, and we believe that we are part of it as human beings. That’s why we wanted our brand to reflect more than just coffee. We chose the name Dukúr, which means bat in Bribri, an indigenous Costa Rican language.

The bat is a symbol of the original stewards of this land and a quiet guardian of the ecosystem. This name honors both our roots and our commitment to sustainability.
